Just 40 km from Marree is where you will come across the longest fence in the world (also the longest man made structure) — the 5,300 km Dog Fence built to separate the rich sheep-growing areas in the south from the dingoes of central Australia. Erected in 1950s and still maintained today by small teams of dog trappers, fence patrollers, pastoralists and repairers, the fence stretches from the Great Australian Bight in far-western South Australia to the Queensland coast.
