Ultimate Tour – Melbourne – Mildura – Broken Hill – Marree – Lake Eyre – Melbourne
Meeting your pilot and your helicopter in Melbourne, depart in the morning over the city watching the rat race. First stop is Mildura then it’s onto Broken Hill for refuelling and stretching of the legs. Refuelled it’s time to overfly the colourful and majestic sights of the Flinders Ranges before arriving in the outback town of Marree for a overnight stop in the historical Marree Hotel.
After a night’s sleep in the Marree Hotel, it’s time to see the flood waters of Lake Eyre from above. Departing town, you will fly over Lake Eyre South and North. Overflying Madigan Gulf, Jackboot Bay, Belt Bay, Warburton Groove to the Warburton River system into Cowarie Station you will witness the shear volume of flood waters. On the ground at Cowarie Station you will meet legendry outback station owner, Sharon Oldfield. Sharon will take you both to see the mighty Warburton Creek in full flow and then settle for a cup of tea or coffee. Then it’s back onboard for
the next leg of your unforgettable journey to Birdsville up the amazing finger river systems of the Goyder Lagoon, then for a refuel and lunch stop at the famous Birdsville Hotel. Airborne again, it’s en-route to Innamincka for an overnight stop at the Innamincka Hotel along side the Coopers Creek.
The flight then continues up the Coopers Creek, with extensive rain throughout the Channel Country in the last few years, it’s an extremely rare opportunity to see one of nature’s most spectacular events. With the abundance of wildlife and vegetation, it’s almost impossible to believe you’re in the middle of one of Earth’s harshest deserts. Landing at the punt location on the Birdsville track witness water in the local lakes and many bird species. Departing the punt site the flight will continue to Marree for lunch then onto Hawker for an overnight stay.
After a hearty, but early breakfast, we will depart Hawker for a few pit stops on your return to Melbourne. An amazing experience and truely breathe taking way to witness Australia’s outback!
